The potential impact of a DUI charge on your career

On Behalf of | Nov 1, 2022 | Drunk Driving |

If you are charged with drunk driving in Mississippi, it could have a negative impact on your career. Depending on the severity of the charges, a conviction could result in the loss of a professional license. A charge or conviction might also complicate your ability to complete your education or live in close proximity to your preferred employer.

Some professions require a driver’s license

It’s not uncommon for employers to choose candidates who have a clean license over those who have limited driving privileges. This is partially because you may need a license to operate heavy machinery, make deliveries or travel to meet clients. Depending on where you live, it may also be necessary to drive to work as there may not be any public transportation available. Without an ability to operate a machine or motor vehicle, you may not be qualified to engage in your chosen line of work.

A DUI may make life more expensive

It may be possible to spend thousands of dollars in legal fees in an effort to avoid a drunk driving conviction. If you are convicted, you may be required to pay a fine as well as fees to have your license reinstated at some point in the future. Depending on the details of your case, you may also be required to pay to have an ignition interlock device (IID) installed on your vehicle. The costs related to your DUI charge may make it difficult to afford a vehicle or housing within walking or biking distance from work.

Casting doubt on evidence used to justify a DUI charge may enable you to get it reduced or dismissed. If a case is dismissed, it may be possible to have it expunged, which would remove it from your public record.
